My father and I just finished reading The Firework-Maker's Daughter by Sir Philip Pullman

My father and I just finished reading The Firework-Maker's Daughter by Sir Philip Pullman.

A charming, whimsical, and terribly short tale of courage, talent, and luck whose real lesson is that the best artists put love into each piece. I cannot help but feel that Pullman used this book to channel the wisdom of a quote of his, "children are not less intelligent than adults; what they are is less informed," for it shows the danger of not telling children what they need to know, of societal expectations thwarting their very real passions and desires. But Lila, daughter of Lalchand, would not be thwarted by anyone, the fire in her heart and those of her friends enough to overcome all challenges for ludicrous to lethal. From the Grotto of the Fire-Fiend Razvani to a most explosive and beautiful competition.

Farewell and be well Lila, Lalchand, Chulak, and Hamlet the white elephant.
