My father and I just finished Winter Rose by Patricia A. McKillip.
Inspired by the Tam Lin folktale, as was Diana Wynne Jones' masterpiece Fire and Hemlock, McKillip has as always woven a tapestry of mystery and magic – with the threads this time being a dark incarnation of winters' power and the ability to love that is central to the human condition.
Complex as is Fire and Hemlock, different yet similar in marked ways, it was once again a joy to see Mr. Lynn saved from a life-stealing queen by a girl determined to hold him fast.
Luck and joy in the spring to Rois, Laurel & Perrin, Corbet Lynn, and Mathu.
